Become a Convention Delegate
Unlike most public offices, the Democratic nomination for State Auditor is awarded at the Indiana Democratic Party Convention (usually held in early June) rather than the Primary Election in May.
Each Indiana county is awarded a certain number of delegates based on population and Democratic loyalty (these numbers are certified to the Indiana Secretary of State by November 30, 2009). Delegates are elected in the May primary. If a county has more Delegates allotted to it than they have people running to be a Delegate, the County Chairman is entitled to appoint vacancies (this usually is the case).
Please support Sam's efforts by running to represent your county at the State Convention. The process is easy:
- Fill out this form (will be made available as soon as it is approved by the Indiana Election Commission).
- Return to your local County Clerk (click here for a list of County Clerks) between January 20 and February 18, 2010. Be sure to let your County Chairperson know you are interested in running as well.
- Let Sam know you are planning to attend the Convention and support him!
